Things You Shouldn’t be Missed in Belitung Island

Destinasi, English

Are you ready for exploring Belitung Island? Strolling on each beach, island hopping tour, and what else? Here are some ideas you can do during your vacation in Belitung.

Island Hopping, from Tanjung Kelayang – Lengkuas Island – Burung Island – Batu Berlayar Island

Island hopping is arguably the most popular activity in Belitung. It takes you a journey to explore the Belitung’s islets.

Most of island hopping tours start at Tanjung Kelayang Beach, Tanjung Binga, or Tanjung Tinggi, then they jump into boat heading to Lengkuas Island.

Lengkuas Island

When I visited Lengkuas Island, it took about 30 minutes to get there from Tanjung Kelayang Beach. Along the journey, you’ll see the blue waters and coast view of small its islands.

Getting close to Lengkuas Island, you’ll hypnotize with its fascinating old white lighthouse. It has been built by the Dutch colonial era in 1882. Fortunately, it still works and well maintains its main function in guiding ship sailing.

When the boat is tied up and your bare feet steep up, you can feel its white sand between your toes. You can also lay down on its sand and feel the ambiance. Besides, you can also enjoy snorkeling or diving on its crystal water, or going up the top of the old white lighthouse to see the 360-degree view. Take your precious time and enjoy all the indulgence.

Burung Island

The charming granite stones view can’t take your eyes off it. Walking around the beach will be the main activity. But, be careful, there are some sharp coral and mussels on the beach. So, you have to keep an eye on your step.

Yea, you can also take your google to see the school of clown fish and others. Then, bring your great camera to take some pictures on its beautiful spot.

Batu Klayar Island

Like another Belitung’s beach, Batu Klayar Island also has giant granite stones on its shore. Typical Belitung view, though. Those huge stones are the main attraction here. Some people love to take pictures there because of its iconic stone. So, if you get it here, prepare your best pose and outfit!

Chilling out on each picturesque beach such as Tanjung Tinggi – Tanjung Kelayang – Tanjung Pandan

photo-belitung-island

Have you ever heard about Tanjung Tinggi Beach? This beach is the most renowned among them all. Its giant granite rock is so picturesque. Besides, this Laskar Pelangi movie and Nidji movie clip (Indonesia band music-red) scene have already got every people heart.

If you wanna visit those beaches, Tanjung Pandan Beach should be the last destination. It’s because Tanjung Pandan Beach is located near the center of town. So, you can spend your night thereby chilling out at the bar or cafe. Enjoy the live music, its delicious local cuisine, and having a talk with a cup of Belitung coffee.

Don’t ever miss the taste of a cup of Kong Dji Coffee

Finding a coffee shop in Belitung is a piece of cake. Some people said, Belitung especially Manggar District, is a house of the coffee shop. There are many coffee shops here. But, the most popular is Kong Djie Coffee.

I am not a coffee expert, but I just love drinking a cup of Kong Djie Coffee. If I am not mistaken, it’s Arabica varieties which has pleasant flavor, high acidity, and softer taste.

Besides, you can also get snacking there. Local Belitung snack like otak-otak, doughnut, fried banana can bring your memory. But, don’t get the wrong place, here is the right Kong Djie Coffee

Get ready to visit Laskar Pelangi movie set

Laskar Pelangi movie (The Rainbow Troops-red) is an Indonesian movie published in 2008. This movie adapted from a popular novel, Laskar Pelangi written by Andrea Hirata.

As cited from Wikipedia, “the movie follows a group of 10 school children and their two inspirational teachers as they struggle with poverty and develop hopes for the future in Gantong Village on the farming and tin mining island of Belitung off the east coast of Sumatra. The film is one of the highest grossing in Indonesian box office history and won a number of local and international awards.”

So, if you are interested or even have already watched the movie, then you may love to visit SD Muhammadiyah Gantong (Muhammadiyah Gantong Elementary School-red) where the movie scene was taken.

If literacy is your kinda thing, you can jump to Museum Kata Andrea Hirata (Andrea Hirata Words Museum-red) which located near to SD Muhammadiyah Gantong.

Menjelajah Waktu ke Ladang Pembantaian Killing Field di Kamboja

Uncategorized

Dari kejauhan, ‘taman pembantaian’ ini tak begitu menarik perhatian. Biasa saja. Satu-satunya hal yang mencuri pandanganku hanyalah monumen tinggi berwarna putih abu-abu beratap emas yang ada di tengah taman. Fotonya ada di bawah ini;

Makin ngeri lagi saat mendengarkan iringan instrumental musik berjudul “A Memory from the darkness”.

Pol Pot, pemimpin Khmer Merah.

Pemberontakan Khmer Merah makin beringas setelah kaum sayap kanan dianggap menampakkan sikap pro-AS.

First The Killed My Father”.

Sambut Ramadan, Hotel Chanti Semarang Hadirkan Tenongan

Sebenarnya, mengapa Hotel Chanti mengusung konsep Tenongan ya Chef?

Sedangkan untuk main course-nya, kami punya ikon lainnya lagi seperti Tempong Lembu Sapi (paha sapi), sate lidah, ayam lado, nasi goreng jagung. Kami juga punya bongko, tumis pepaya, laksa nyonya, lumpia basah Magelang, ayam buah kluwuk, mie ayam, nasi gandul, martabak telur, aneka gorengan, bubur jagung.”

Tempong Lembu Sapi, main course andalan Hotel Chanti Semarang selama Ramadan.

“All you can eat 109K buat dewasa, 65K buat anak-anak mbak.

Cara Refund Tiket Pesawat AirAsia

tips, Uncategorized

Beberapa waktu lalu, aku batal terbang ke Kuala Lumpur. Mau reschedule, jadwalku masih belum jelas. Bingung.

Eits, jangan keburu bahagia.

Benar. Dan Gunung Sindoro mengajariku hal ini. Aku? Lulus, tuntas tanpa remidi.

Beruntung, usai sholat Magrib kami bertemu kawan seperjalanan. Kebetulan sama-sama dari Semarang.

Yang namanya perjalanan, tak selamanya mulus seperti jalan tolnya Pak Jokowi. Kami hampir saja salah ambil jalan di persimpangan. Untungnya, kami menyadari, jalanan tertutup sarang laba-laba. Tak mungkin pendaki lewat sini.

Rasanya, salah ambil jalan kerap dialami pendaki.

Insiden babi, nyatanya nggak membuat nyali kami ciut buat terus mencapai puncak. Kami lanjutkan perjalanan keesokan hari.

Mentari bersinar terik pertanda kami bangun kesiangan. Padahal jalan menuju puncak masih panjang.

Aku pun mulai mempertanyakan soal tujuan naik gunung berulang kali.

Rekomendasi Soto Semarang Buka Sampai Tengah Malam

kuliner

Tapi, tenang saja, aku punya rekomendasinya buat kalian.

Berikut rekomendasi Soto Semarang yang buka sampai tengah malam.

Soto Semarang Mas Met Jl. Indraprasta

Harga
Soto : Rp10.000
Aneka sate : Rp4.000
Gorengan tempe :Rp1.000
Perkedel : Rp2.000
Es Teh : Rp3.000

Jam operasional : 05.00 sore – 10.00 malam
Lokasi

Soto Ayam Pak Sukarman Banjir Kanal

Selanjutnya ada Soto Ayam Pak Sukarman Banjir Kanal. Kalau Soto Ayam Mas Met jadi andalan, Soto Pak Sukarman ini pilihan kedua-ku. Biasanya baru mampir ke sini kalau Warung Pak Met pas lagi tutup.
Meskipun jadi pilihan kedua, tapi Soto Ayam Pak Sukarman Banjir Kanal ini enggak kalah nikmatnya lho. Lokasinya mudah dijangkau.

Harga
Soto : Rp8.000
Aneka sate : Rp3.000
Gorengan tempe :Rp1.000
Perkedel : Rp2.000
Ayam : Rp5.000
Es Teh : Rp3.000

Jam Operasional: 04.30 sore – 10.00 malam
Lokasi

Soto Ayam Neon Pak Nie

Menu pendampingnya pun banyak pilihan. Beraneka macam sate (ayam, telur puyuh, hati ayam, uritan, kerang), gorengan tempe, perkedel kerupuk pun tersedia.
Harga
Soto : Rp9.000 (kecil), Rp10.000 (besar)
Aneka sate : Rp4.000
Gorengan tempe :Rp1.000
Perkedel : Rp2.000
Ayam : Rp5.000
Es Teh : Rp3.000
Jam operasional : 05.00 sore – 12.00 malam

Soto Ayam Pak Moel Pekunden

Makan Soto Semarang malam-malam bakal kurang lengkap kalau nggak mampir buat nyicipin Soto Pak Moel.

Hanya Rp7.000 saja! Biasanya, pas lagi bokek tanggal tua, aku hanya pesan soto, satu tempe goreng, dan minum bayar sendiri. Bayar berapa coba? Cuma Rp8.000.

Selain murah, ibu penjual soto pun baik hatinya. Seringkali, aku dan teman-teman dikasih potongan harga. Lumayan lah buat bayar parkir.
Harga
Soto : Rp7.000
Aneka sate : Rp4.000
Gorengan tempe/ bala bala :Rp1.000
Perkedel : Rp2.000
Es Teh : Rp2.000
Jam Operasional : 05 sore – 10 malam

Soto Ayam Pak Hadi

Kalau menyoal rasa, menurutku sih “B” aja.
Harga
Soto : Rp7.000
Aneka sate : Rp3.000
Gorengan tempe/ bala bala :Rp1.000
Perkedel : Rp2.000
Es Teh : Rp2.000
Jam Operasional : 07.00 pagi – 10.00 malam

Soto Ayam Bangkong

Last but not least, Soto Ayam Bangkong.

Harga
Soto : Rp13.000
Aneka sate : Rp4.000
Gorengan tempe :Rp1.500
Perkedel : Rp3.000
Es Teh : Rp3.000

4 McD Jalan Pandanaran

But, for you who don’t wanna get local breakfast, McD can be your choice. There are some McD outlet, but McD at Jalan Pandanaran will be a great choice.

It’s because of the location which is surrounded by popular attraction spots like Lawang Sewu, Alun-alun Semarang, and Kampung Pelangi.

Location:

5 KFC Jalan Pandanaran

If McD isn’t your thing, you can get KFC. It’s located near McD, even on the same street.

The outlet is good enough. It has two level building. But, don’t go on the level two. It’s more spacious but they don’t have a air-con, only fan. It’s very uncomfortable eating while sweating.

6 Burger King Paragon Mall Jalan Pemuda

Fortunately, since 2018, Burger King has officially opened in Semarang (oh, thanks God). This will be a good choice for you wanna get your favorite burger.

It’s settled on Paragon Mall at Jalan Pemuda. You can take a walk around 5-10 minutes from Lawang Sewu.

Soto Dargo Pak Wito can be your breakfast spot in Semarang. It also can be your choice for lunch or dinner

As the Indonesian national food, Soto has many kind of types. If you are in Jakarta, you’ll have Soto Betawi. When you are in Surabaya, you’ll get Soto Lamongan. Therefore, when you are in Semarang, you have to get a try of Soto Semarang.

Soto itself is a bowl of soup which composed of rice, chicken broth, shredded chicken, some rice noddle, and vegetables like chopped of scallion and bean sprouts. Uniquely, it’s served in a small bowl.

There are many Soto hawkers in Semarang, but I recommend you to visit Soto Ayam Semarang Dargo Pak Wito for breakfast. Joglo Java Villa Semarang, a Hidden Gem in a Busy Trading City

English, hotel

As the capital city of Central Java, Semarang presents a busy trading city which its main showcases are business center and industrial area. Besides, you can see the present and past image of most of the thriving cities in Indonesia.

So, stepping your shoes on Semarang means that you need to forget about tourist cities life like Bali which serves you frenetic nightclub life or meeting a group of tourists laying on beautiful beaches. But, you still can find a hidden tourist gem here.

Read also : my recommendation for having breakfast like a local in Semarang

It’s Joglo Java Villa, the wood-carved villas around the tranquil courtyard is an admirable, astonishing, spectacular, and phenomenal villa in Semarang. Don’t compare it with other typical villas in Bali, because you can find it there easily. But, when you are in Semarang, it’s like an oasis in a hot desert. Even a local wouldn’t expect that this Joglo Java villa can be found in Semarang.

The location of Joglo Java Villa Semarang

Even though, reaching the Joglo isn’t a big deal. The google maps can help you accurately to find it. Believe me, you won’t be lost.

The Joglo Java Villa is located in an uptown area of Semarang, precisely at Jalan Marokono, Dusun Kepoh, Kelurahan Nanka Sawit, Gunungpati. We need around 45 minutes to an hour driving to get there.

Actually, I could see the roof of the Joglo Java Villa from the main street but, I faced difficulty to find the gate until I recognized that the wooden gate is its main entrance.

When I set my eyes far from the distance, I asked for myself, “is it okay having stay-cation surrounded by residential area? Don’t they feel bothering by our rockery party?”.

But, after I made it, it’s totally okay. Its medium wooden gate, the fence wall, the paddy field created a great ambiance of a private villa in a remote area which couldn’t be touched by a frenzied city.

When it came a night, the animal and nature sound will be your best music playlist. Even Spotify couldn’t do.

Little things to do here

strolling around at Joglo Java Villa by bicycle

When I walked the inside through its spacious yard, I was amazed by its plenty of green trees surrounding. I can say that the trees there are dense. Durian, longan, guava, jackfruit, bamboo trees, paddy and cornfield, many kinds of flowers grow close together. Even you can find some edible mushrooms!

I don’t exactly know how wide is the garden, but as far as I realize, it’s really possible for us to do jogging, cycling, walking around, playing badminton and volleyball there. So, can you imagine how vast it is!

Withal, there is also a small pond which contains plenty of fish. You can sit there and take your time to feed them. It felt so relaxing, by the way.

But, if feeding fish isn’t your thing, you can grab the bike and stroll around the garden or even the residential area. Don’t you dare to experience a local life ambiance?

Facilities provided in this villa

the bathtub of Joglo Java Villa

Joglo Java Villa Semarang fits to accommodate 8 people. It offers 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, two living rooms, and two kitchens which separated by two levels.

On the first level, there is only a room without a bathroom inside. But, you can find it on the next door. Then, when you step outside, a big screen TV, fabric sofas, and some wooden chair organized well. That wide non-partition living room was the best spot for me and my friends having some chats or playing cards.

The kitchen on the first floor is also good and clean. You can prepare your meal or making a barbecue party there. No worries, you don’t need to bring any plates, cup, glasses, or grill tools, everything sets properly there.

Then, to reach the second floor, you have to walk up the stairs. I was also amazed at its wooden handrail. It is not only the banister, but almost every part of the second floor had been made by wooden material.

the second biggest room

The Javanese ornaments like traditional game, painting, sculpture, carving will raise up a difference ambiance compare to the first floor. It’s identically with Javanese era and a bit tip of Chinese or European accessories.

On the second floor, there are two big rooms with paddy field and garden view. All the rooms are comfy and equipped with a bathroom. But, the biggest room serves you a much better experience. Why? Because there is a bathtub spot which offers you a great scenery of Mount Ungaran and the green paddy field. Astonishing view!

Besides, the second floor of Joglo Java Villa also completes with balcony, living room, and kitchen rooms.

Like the normal house, Joglo Java Villa also provides everything you need to clean up such as broom, mop, air pump. It’s stored on the wooden cabinet under the stairs.

And, the best facilities of this Joglo Java Villa, I can ride the bicycle without additional charge. There are some optional bicycles which can be used. Ah, there is also a tricycle!

A fair price for an outstanding villa

With all the facilities and amenities given to you, this Joglo Java Villa gives you a fair price. I booked it for a night last weekend and I had to pay only for 63.08 USD include taxes.

If you get along with more than 8 people, each of them will be charged for Rp50.000 or equal to 3,5 USD. But, if you book it early bird, you have a chance to get a cheaper price. It’s around 38 USD per night.

The Best Time to Visit Bromo, East Java, Indonesia

Destinasi, English

Are you planning to visit Mt. Bromo, East Java, Indonesia shortly? I suggest you to reconsider your plan because the best time to visit Bromo is during the dry season.

Well, it may be hot as hell, but the sky is so clear. It’s bright, beautiful sunny day. You can explore on every corner like its grey sand, the vast green savanna, and the carter. Therefore, you can also catch the dazzling and stunning sunrise.

the best time to visit bromoSummer, is the best time to visit Bromo. It’s taken on May. Photo by Muhammadsamien

Unfortunately, the dry season in Indonesia is unpredictable. The global warming takes responsible on this climate change. May supposes to be the hot season, but when I came to Bromo on May, I was trapped on the hard rainy day. I couldn’t see that dazzling sunrise. The sky is gray.

Besides considering the matter of time, you also need to know some crucial things during your trip to Bromo.

#1 Travel to Bromo or not to rent a jeep?

Before deciding to rent a Jeep, how many people who take part in your group? If you are in a big group, at least 4 people, it’s better to rent a jeep.

However, if you are traveling solo or two, rent a motorbike is more efficient. You can find many motorbike rentals in Malang. (I’ll let you know where to rent on my next post). You need to book a week or two weeks before heading to Bromo.

Usually, the owner will take that motorbike to the appointment spot. The motorbike rent costs pretty fair, 80.000 rupiahs per day. It doesn’t include gasoline. While, the keep costs around 1,250,000 for 6 people. But, the coolest part of riding to Mt.Bromo is challenging. It takes you a twist road with lush trees view and paddy fields. Trust me you won’t get bored on your long journey.

And, needs to be a note, ride a jeep or rent a motorbike, depending on your vacation style. Are you an adventurer or a leisure seeker?

#2 Choose accommodation during Malang according to budget

If you go to Bromo from Malang and decide to rent a jeep, you better stay in Malang. Even though there are not many cheap lodging options in Malang like in Jogja, there are some hotels that are quite comfortable.

With 49,587 rupiahs, you can stay in hostel at Tya Backpackers Malang. This hostel is located in the center of Malang, so it is quite easy for you to travel around city.

Other cheap lodging recommendations are at Kavie Hostel Malang. Similar to Tya Backpackers, this lodge is specifically for backpacker or traveling with minimal budget. It costs 74,380 rupiah per night.

Then, there are also Malang Hotels. It costs only 100,000 to 120,000 rupiah. The facilities are pretty good. This hotel is about 10 minutes from Malang Tugu Square. Pretty clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, old buildings make the atmosphere look a bit scary.

For a leisure seeker like you, you can stay at 3-star hotels or even Boutique Hotels. The cost is pretty fair around Rp370,000 – Rp.400,000 per night.

#3 A leisure seeker, here is for you. Rent a jeep!

If you wanna rent a jeep, make sure where is the starting point. The price you should pay depends on the departure spot.

Catch a jeep from Wonokitri Pasuruan and Cemoro Lawang, Probolinggo, you’ll get a bit cheaper than rent it from Malang or even Surabaya.

Travel to Bromo is easier if you rent a jeep. You only need to wait at your hotel, then the jeep driver will pick you up at midnight and take you to Mount Bromo. So, you won’t miss to see the stunning sunrise.

For the cost, depending on the number of groups. Jeep rental packages for 6 person from Malang costs around 1,250,000 Rupiah. You can share it with your friends. The less people join in, the much expensive it costs.

But, it’s worth it. Your driver will get you to Bromo Crater, Pasir Berbisik, and Padang Savana. And, some of them will give you a bottle of mineral water and even snack.

#4 Motorcycle rides to Bromo are much more challenging

The trip to Bromo will be longer and more challenging when you take motorbike. But, I can guarantee, the trip will be more exciting.

The journey from Malang to Bromo takes around 2 to 3 hours. The path you take is quite long and winding. Views of the countryside, rice fields and forests will accompany you during your trip.

And, it’s better to stay at the guest house around Bromo, dont stay in Malang. It costs Rp150.000 – Rp300.000, depends on the season.

English, kuliner

Traveling will bring us to many kinds of food diversity. We will explore many different ingredients used in various kinds of dishes. When you travel to Belitung, most of hawker or restaurant will serve you seafood and Chinese food.

But, still, you can find 5 Indonesian national food like Soto, Nasi Goreng, Rendang, Satay, and Gado-gado easily. During my stay in Belitung, I came to Rumah Makan DIVA for my dinner. Actually, this hawker stall isn’t popular among tourist, but my local friends suggested me and my friend for having dinner here. I ate Nasi Goreng Ikan Asin which means salted mackerel fried rice. It tasted good, a bit salty.

Besides that, here are list of menus you could eat in Belitung Island:

What to eat in Belitung for breakfast?

#1 eat anything at your hotel stay

Almost all of the hotel, guest house, or lodge in Belitung will serve you a breakfast package. From the simple to complete food breakfast menu, either Indonesian or western food. But, the menu you’ll get depends on the hotel class.

During my trip to Belitung, I stayed at Surya Hotel for a night. It’s one-star hotel which located at Jl. Depati Endek, Tanjung Pandan. The price given was cheap, only for Rp120.000 for two people which included twin beds, shared bathrooms, and breakfast package.

And, I’d got a breakfast menu for two also. They served us two slices of risoles (made of potato and mixed with carrots), two glasses of hot tea, and two slices banana cake.

#2 having a cup of coffee and some slices of toast at Warung Kopi Kong Djie will make your day!

For example, I stayed in Surya Hotel, Belitung. It cost 120.000 rupiahs (8 USD) for a night which facilitated twin bedrooms, AC, shared bathrooms. So, what I’d got? Two slices of cake, two pieces of rissole (in Frenc it called rissoler-red), and two glasses of tea. FYI, I traveled with a friend.

Traveling to Belitung won’t be perfect without visiting Warung Kopi Kong Djie. This coffee-shop has been built since 1940, Japanese colonial era.

Either black coffee or coffee milk is their best. I am not a coffee-holic, but I loved their coffee. It’s a bit bitter, strong aroma, and sour. Folk said that Kong Djie combines the arabica and Java Sumatran robusta, that’s why the aftertaste contains strong acid and a bit bitter.

Then, to charge your energy, you can order toast (in Bahasa it called Roti Bakar-red) or sandwich. But, if you wanna crave Belitung’s traditional food, go and try otak-otak. It’s a grilled fish cake made of ground fish meat mixed with tapioca starch and spices and covered with banana leaves.

Price:

A glass of coffee : Rp10.000 (0.6 USD) Toast : Rp15.000 (1 USD) Sandwich : Rp17.000 (1,3 USD) Otak-otak : Rp15.000 (1 USD)

What to eat in Belitung for your lunch?

#1 how about craving a spicy noodle at Mie Belitung Atep?

Where to eat in belitung? Mie Atep

Indonesian people love to eat noodle anytime. For their breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even supper. That’s why any kinda noodle becomes popular. And, you know what? Mie Belitung Atep is one of the most legendary noodles in Indonesia!

So, craving a bowl of Mie (noodles in Bahasa-red) Belitung Atep will be a great idea for your lunchtime.

You may familiar with noodle or ramen soup and fried noodle. But, this Atep noodle stands between them all. It does have broth, but not that much as noodle soup does. It isn’t dry at all also. How can I say? hmm.. the broth texture is in the middle of noodle soup and dry noodle. A bit condensed.

Then, on top of the noodle, there is some crack of crackers, shrimps, fish cake, fried tofu, and slices of cucumber. The taste tends to sweet, anyway.

Besides the noodle soup, you can also order some rice menus such as chicken rice.

Price:

Mie Atep : Rp18.000 (1,5 USD)

Dapur Sakato is a Padang restaurant which serves West Sumatran and Belitung specialties such as Nasi rendang (beef rendang-red), fish and chicken curry, any kinda seafood, and others.

This buffet restaurant is clean and neat, everyone could spend their time longer here because of their good ambiance.

#2 RM Batu Garuda

My last recommendation is Rumah Makan Batu Garuda. Situated in seashore and beachfront, this restaurant will serve you their fresh seafood menu such as crab, fish, scallop, shrimp, squid. They also have stir-fry vegetables.

Having dinner with a perfect beach view and savory food will bring you to unforgettable experience ever.

I loved the fresh grilled fish and its stir-fry morning glory. Eating with local friends and having a fun talking was my greatest experience there.

Lemme tell you, RM Batu Garuda is located near Tj. Kelayang Beach. So, it’s better to come here after having a great day of island hopping.
